88-Keys | Interview

From Long Island, NY, 88-Keys became interested in hip hop from hearing Prince Paul’s production on De La Soul’s classic 1989 hip hop album, 3 Feet High & Rising. In the early 90’s, 88-Keys interned at The Music Palace recording studio and met Q-Tip, Pete Rock, and Large Professor. 88-Keys dropped out of college to pursue his dreams as a producer. His decision was fueled by an opportunity to record with The Pharcyde in California. 88-Keys has produced records for Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Macy Gray, Musiq Soulchild, and more. In addition to producing, 88-Keys has displayed his skills on the mic as an emcee and singer, most notably on his 2008 solo debut album, The Death Of Adam. Later that year, 88-Keys released the mixtape, Adam’s Case Files, as a prequel to The Death Of Adam. Check out Beats No More 2, a compilation of “throwaway” beats.
