Big Herk Interview

Big Herk is an emcee from Detroit, MI. He began rapping over 20 years ago with his friend under the group name Real Def Organization. Their first song “We’re Hard” was produced by Maestro (Kaos & Maestro) and sampled the classic “Rock The Bells” song by LL Cool. Herk later formed the group Rebel Against The System with three others and released the single “Motor Livin’”. Around the same time while recording and networking, Herk ran into an old high school classmate named Rock, the CEO of Rock Bottom Entertainment. Herk was a member of Rock Bottom and the group released their first album From The Bottoms Up with the lead single “Freak 4 Dollars”. The group released two more albums after that with significant airplay on local radio before Herk focused on his solo career. In 2003, Herk released Guilty As Charged, the album that solidified him as a solo artst. He’s released several mixtapes and has appeared in a number of films as well. He’s been featured on Slum Village’s Detroit Deli album and has collaborated with MC Breed, Obie Trice, Eminem, Elzhi, and many others. Herk’s latest solo album came in 2013 under the title Overdose.
