DJ Dez Andrés | Interview

DJ Dez Andrés is a Hip Hop and House DJ from Detroit. Originally a drummer after being influenced by his jazz musician father, Dez was raised in California and learned to DJ on the west coast before moving back to Detroit as a late teen. He began working at Buy-Rite Records and spent time at Parliament-Funkadelic member Amp Fiddler’s home studio before meeting the late J. Dilla. Dez was soon recruited in Slum Village as the DJ and eventually learned to produce with a similar ear to Dilla’s. In the late 90s, Dez collaborated with his record store friend to release 12″ House music records on KDJ. He released three albums for Mahogani which earned him recognition as one of the most versatile producers on the Detroit dance music scene.
