D12 | Interview
D12, aka The Dirty Dozen, is a hip hop group from Detroit, MI. They formed in 1996 with the vision of Proof and achieved mainstream success after Eminem reached international fame. In 1997, D12 released their debut album The Underground EP. Bizarre was named Inner City Entertainment’s Flava Of The Week and released an EP, Attack Of The Weirdos, while Proof won a freestyling competition run by The Source. During Eminem’s first record deal, Proof recruited Kuniva and Kon Artist into the group, formerly known as Da Brigade. D12 has released two albums, Devil’s Night (2001) and D12 World (2004). In 2005, Bizarre and Proof managed to see solo success with their solo albums, Hannicap Circus and Searching For Jerry Garcia. D12 appeared on Tech N9ne’s 2002 album, Absolute Power, on the track, “She Devil”. In 2006, Proof was fatally shot at a club in Detroit. In 2008, D12 released the mixtape, Return Of The Dozen Vol. 1, in preparation for new material. Because of Proof’s passing and Eminem working on solo material, the mixtape features several guest features from Royce Da 5’9″, King Gordy, and more. In 2011, a former member from the early incarnation of D12, Fuzz Scoota, rejoined the group. D12 released another mixtape, Return Of The Dozen Vol. 2.
