DJ Cash Money defines “mixtape” and comments on Busta Rhymes & Q-Tip’s mixtape | Interview
DJ Cash Money, legendary Philadelpha DJ, breaks down the definition of a mixtape and comments on the miscommunication between emcees and DJs. Cash believes that you cannot call a project a “mixtape” unless it includes some form of song-blending or mixing. A collection of songs should be called an album or an EP. He also expresses disappointment with The Abstratct & The Dragon Mixtape by Q-Tip and Busta Rhymes for not having any songs mixed or blended on the project. With as many close friends of Q-Tip and Busta that are talented DJs, they could have easily asked one of them to blend the project together. Finally, Cash Money discusses why DJs may not play certain artists in the clubs, since the DJ was abandoned once emcees signed recording contracts and left the DJ in the dust.
