DJ D-Styles | Interview
DJ D-Styles is a turntablist and DJ from the San Francisco area. He was well-known by 1992 in the hip hop community, and in 1997, he joined the group Invisibl Skratch Piklz. The collective of technically-skilled turntablist were innovators in using turntables as instruments to perform in a band-like fashion. D-Styles toured around the world and released his debut album, Phantazmagorea, in 2002. It was the first album where scratching was used to play each individual element of the songs. D-Styles currently spins at the Los Angeles club, Low End Theory, alongside Gaslamp Killer, Daddy Kev, DJ Nobody, and Nocando. D-Styles also helped Vestax design a turntable called Controller One, as well as his own slip mats.
