Ms. Jade | Interview

Growing up in Philadelphia, Ms. Jade enrolled in beauty school after graduating from high school. As her hobby of rapping grew stronger, Jade began practicing her rhyming skills in between beauty school classes. Upon graduation, she decided to devote her full attention towards being successful in the music industry. Ms. Jade was rapping at bus stops and gas stations, dropping verses on her friend’s answering machines, and cruise around Philly searching for cyphers or anyone who was spitting. When meeting industry artists, they would tell her that Philly already had Eve. She kept knocking on doors and eventually met Terrance Glasgow of 215 Entertainment. Terrance set up a meeting with Ms. Jade and Missy Elliot in Manhattan where Ms. Jade showed her skills. Missy was impressed and called Timbaland on the phone to hear the hungry artist. Two weeks later, Jade was in the studio working on a track for Timbaland and Magoo’s album. Ms. Jade’s debut album, Girl Interrupted, released in 2002 with features from Nelly Furtado, Bubba Sparxxx, Lil Mo, Petey Pablo, and Jay-Z. In 2007, Jade released the mixtape, Million Dollar Baby, hosted by DJ Don Cannon.
