Franky Vasquez aka Figment | Interview
Franky Vasquez is a producer, writer, and recording engineer from Los Angeles, CA. He is currently a project coordinator at Stampede Management and the A&R for Doggy Style Records under Snoop Dogg. In the studio as en engineer, he’s recorded and mixed for Dam-Funk, Hi-Tek, GZA, and countless others. He’s even scored music on a documentary about Ol’ Dirty Bastard. In this video interview with TheBeeShine, Franky describes his introduction through his older brother who was into 2Pac, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Snoop Dogg, and Dr. Dre. Franky witnessed rap cyphers and b-boys first hand, so he was naturally drawn to the culture. His first official production equipment was the MPC1000, where he sampled from his parents’ giant record collection. He networked his way into the hip hop scene with local artists by attending open mics, battles, and showcases. After graduating from high school, Franky went to engineering school and started interning at a studio soon after. He also answers the ever-pressing question of what it’s liking working with the godfather Snoop Dogg in the studio and why Franky calls him the hardest working artist. Check out Franky’s music here.
