Luckyiam (Living Legends) | Interview

From Los Angeles, CA, Luckyiam is the co-founder of the Living Legends crew and a consistent solo artist. He studied west coast hip hop in the early 90’s at the Goodlife Cafe, along with Freestyle Fellowship. After the riots in Los Angeles, Lucky moved to the Bay Area and joined Mystik Journeymen with Sunspot Jonz. In 2003, Lucky toured three times in the U.S., as well as a Japan tour in the summer with Eligh. In 2004, he toured the Northwest with Living Legends in January, recorded with the group in Hawaii in February, toured Europe for over a month with Atmosphere, then performed at The Coachella Festival. In September, he went to South America and became one of the first underground artists to perform in Peru. Living Legends is a hip hop group of eight hip hop artists from California. In the early 1990s, the crew garnered a following by recording, promoting, and performing their music independently. They are considered by LA Weekly to be “one of the biggest success stories of the indie rap movement, having sold close to 300,000 units of their various solo and group efforts.” The crew originally grew out of, Mystik Journeymen, composed of Sunspot Jonz and Luckyiam. In 1994, the Journeymen began cultivating a fan base by selling their own tapes on the streets and hosting shows in East Oakland. In 1995, the duo met The Grouch, and toured together throughout Europe. In 1996, Mystik Journeymen and The Grouch joined with the trio, 3 Melancholy Gypsys (3MG), and formed the Living Legends.
