PH explains the influence of Grind Time Now on battle rap culture | Interview
Brooklyn emcee and former Grind Time Now East Coast Division Manager PH wants to send a reminder of the important impact that GTN had as a rap battle league. After the JumpOff World Rap Championships ended, there was a hiatus in New York City where no organized competitions existed. When Grind Time Now was created by Drect, it helped catapult the art form into the mainstream eye. “Grind Time made people want to battle rap again” PH claims, as well as “inspiring SMACK” to take URL to the next level. From rap battles at street corners and parking lots to well-respected venues with thousands of spectators, Grind Time Now was “the beginning of the avalanche” and “made a mark in battle rap history”. In the video above, PH credits Lush One, Plex Rock, Poison Pen, Sara Kana, and Kap Kallous for their contributions to the movement.
