Punchline | Interview

Punchline is an emcee from New York City. He gained popularity from appearances on MTV’s Lyricist Lounge Show as a co-writer. In 1998, Punchline teamed up with fellow New York rapper Wordsworth under the group name Punch-N-Words, making guest appearances on A Tribe Called Quest’s The Love Movement album, Mos Def & Talib Kweli’s Black Star album, and Rawkus Records’ Lyricist Lounge Vol. 1 compilation. In 2000, their self-titled debut, Punch-N-Words EP, was released. In 2001, Punchline and Wordsworth toured with Stricklin and Masta Ace, following the release of Ace’s album, Disposable Arts. The four emcees became close friends and created the group eMC, after already recording numerous tracks together. eMC’s debut album, The Show, was highly respected and praised by fans. In 2009, Punchline released an EP with Fokis, The Appetizer, followed by the mixtape, Punchline On Smash Vol. 1. In 2012, he released the Underground Superstar album with German producer, DJ SoulClap. Punch is also creating an educational children’s cartoon, The Kid’s Block, with the production duo Trackmasters & Steve Rifkin.
