Royce Da 5’9″ Interview

Royce Da 5’9″ is an emcee from Detroit, MI. He began rapping at age 18 and was introduced to Eminem in 1997. The two formed a working relationship under the group name Bad Meets Evil. Royce later signed with Columbia Records to record his debut album, Rock City. It was eventually released in 2002 as Rock City (Version 2.0). Royce appeared on The Slim Shady LP, and was introduced to Dr. Dre. In 2004, he released his sophomore album, Death Is Certain, followed by Independent’s Day in 2005. In 2011, Royce released Success Is Certain and a mixtape, The Bar Exam, with DJ Premier and Statik Selektah. He also wrote the song “Tell Me” for Diddy on the album Press Play. Royce recorded a verse in 2008 for Joe Budden’s album, Halfway House, alongside Crooked I, Joell Ortiz, and Nino Bless. The song was called “Slaughterhouse” and four of the emcees formed the group based on the song title. Their full-length album was self-titled and released in 2009 and the group signed to Shady Records. In 2011, Royce and Eminem released a Bad Meets Evil album, Hell: The Sequel, after several years of inactivity. In 2012, Slaughterhouse released Welcome To: Our House.
