AZ | Interview

AZ is an emcee from Brooklyn, NY. He is known as a rhyme partner of Nas and one of the most underrated lyricists of all-time. AZ’s breakthrough came in 1994 on Nas’ debut album Illmatic, for the song “Life’s A Bitch”. He was the only guest appearance on the classic album. In 1995, AZ signed with EMI and released his debut album, Doe Or Die, with features from Nas and Miss Jones, and production from Pete Rock, L.E.S., and Buckwild. In 1997, The Firm was formed, with AZ, Nas, Nature, and Foxy Brown. They released their only album, The Album, with production from Dr. Dre and Trackmasters. In 2002, AZ’s single “The Essence” featuring Nas was nominated for the 2003 Grammy Awards as Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group. AZ has released several solo albums over the years, with the new album, Doe Or Die 2, set for a 2013 release.
