Desdamona is an emcee from Minneapolis, MN. She grew up in Iowa and formed a band in college where she was the rapper and the other members were singers. They performed around the state until Des moved to Minneapolis and was performing poetry at open mic nights. Des was first featured on Brother Ali’s debut album, Rites Of Passage, in 2000. Her first album, The Ledge, was released in 2005 with the help of reggae musicians Sly and Robbie. Her second album, The Source, was released in 2007, with features from Carnage. The two formed a duo called Ill Chemistry and were noted at the 2007 Minnesota Music Awards. Desdamona has won Best Spoken Word Artist for five consecutive years, beginning in 2000. She co-founded a female-based music festival, B-Girl Be, incorporating hip hop and spoken word to recognize the talent of females.
