D.R.E.S. Tha BEATnik | Interview

D.R.E.S. tha BEATnik is an emcee, beatboxer, host, lecturer, and ambassador from Philadelphia, PA. Currently residing in Atlanta, GA, his career began at a young age by singing, dancing, emceeing, and beatboxing. D.R.E.S. is a former dancer for Russell Simmons’ Def Comedy Jam and member of the Universal Zulu Nation with over 10,000 shows under his belt. In 2000, D.R.E.S. released his debut album, Have Mic… Will Travel, which was the first album produced entirely from beatboxing. In 2002, his sophomore album was released, titled Have Mic… Will Travel: The Live Experience, with features from Slick & Rose and DJ Rasta Root. In 2006, D.R.E.S. toured China for six weeks with DJ Lord of Public Enemy. D.R.E.S. hosted numerous hip hop clinics to educate the youth of China on hip hop culture. His ventures were filmed for a documentary called The Beatnik Chronicles. In 2010, he hosted the national freestyle battle tour, Red Bull EmSee: The Road To 8 Mile, with Eminem as the guest curator. That same year, D.R.E.S. made his movie debut in the film Step Off. In 2012, he was named official VJ host for World Star Hip Hop Canada TV.
