evitaN (Dres & Jarobi White) | Interview

Two legendary hip hop contributors, Dres (Black Sheep) and Jarobi (A Tribe Called Quest) formed a duo, evitaN, which is the backwards spelling from their original crew, Native Tongues. In 2012, the two released their first collaborative album, Speed Of Life, with features from some of the earlier emcees of their time such as Craig G and Sadat X, as well as some newer generation artists like Homeboy Sandman and Punchline. In this video, Dres and Jarobi talk about the importance of creating music for other people, not for fame or recognition. Rapping was always about impressing your peers and the inspiration was always about being very skilled at the craft. The two go deeper into Queen’s hip hop history with Grandmaster Vic and Disco Twins, and also discuss what they’d like to be remembered for.
