Joell Ortiz of Slaughterhouse | Interview

Joell Ortiz is an emcee from Brooklyn, NY. He built a following with his series of “125 Grams” songs and later met with Dr. Dre in California to sign with Aftermath. In 2007, Joell released his debut album, The Brick: Bodega Chronicles, on Koch Records. The album includes production from Alchemist, Showbiz, Domingo, Lil Fame, Moss, and more. Guest features include Akon, Big Daddy Kane, Big Noyd, Styles P, M.O.P, Immortal Technique, and more. In 2008, Joell recorded a verse for Joe Budden’s album, Halfway House. The song also featured Crooked I, Royce Da 5’9″, and Nino Bless, titled “Slaughterhouse”. Four of them decided to form a group and named it after their first song together. They released a self-titled album in 2009 with production from Alchemist, DJ Khalil, Mr. Porter, and more. In 2010, the group signed to Shady Records and released Slaughterhouse EP in 2011. Also in 2011, Joell released his second official album, Free Agent. In 2012, Slaughterhouse released their second official album, Welcome To: Our House, and Joell is finishing his next solo album, Yaowa.
