Necro Interview

Necro is an emcee, producer, and filmmaker from Brooklyn, NY. He grew up in Glenwood Housing Projects and later moved to Canarsie. Necro’s music career began at 11, playing guitar in a death metal band called Injustice. In 1988, he started rapping after being influenced by his older brother ILL BILL. Necro’s first demo was recorded in 1990 and won him a demo battle contest on Stretch & Bobbito’s show. In 1993, Necro recorded a demo called Do The Charles Manson. His ultra-violent style of rhyming coined the phrase “death rap”, incorporating death metal beats with lyrics of violence, death, sex, and drugs. Necro was producing in 1989 and later landed placements on albums by Cage, ILL BILL, Mr. Muthafuckin’ eXquire, Non Phixion, Q-Unique, Raekwon, and others. At age 18, Necro invested in film and acting courses at Brooklyn College. He directed two short, silent, 70s themed films on super 8 and 16mm film. He later attended The Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute. In 1999, he founded the independent record label Psycho+Logical-Records and has released over 23 albums on the imprint between solo projects, The Circle Of Tyrants, instrumental albums, and his latest collaboration with Kool G Rap called The Godfathers.
