REKS | Interview

REKS is an emcee from Lawrence, MA. As a teenager, he was a b-boy in a crew called Funk Town Connection. REKS had built up a reputation in the local Boston hip hop scene by the time he entered college, and eventually dropped out to record for Brick Records. In 2001, REKS released his debut album Along Came The Chosen. He earned nominations in the Boston Music Awards for Hip Hop Album and Artist Of The Year. In 2003, his sophomore album, Rekless, was released without any distribution. Soon after, REKS linked up with producer and mixtape guru Statik Selektah. Eventually signing to Statik’s imprint ShowOff Records, REKS made several appearances on Statik’s 2007 album Spell My Name Right. In 2008, REKS released the album Grey Hairs on ShowOff Records. He has since released several mixtapes and albums including the critically-acclaimed 2012 album, Straight, No Chaser. ShowOff is scheduled to release another REKS album in 2012, Rebelutionary.
