Rich Kidd | Interview

Rich Kidd is an emcee, producer, songwriter, and director from Toronto, ON. At age 16, he took his sound to Detroit and produced Frank & Dank’s single “Get Right Song”. In 2007, he released the first volume of a series called We On Some Rich Kidd Shit. This grew to a six series compilation which was released annually and featured nearly 100 artists. In 2009, Rich Kidd produced a song for Busta Rhymes called “Undescribable”, which featured Billy Daze of M.O.P. That same year, K-Os recorded a song on a Rich Kidd beat, which featured Saukrates and Nelly Furtado. We On Some Rich Kidd Shit Vol. 3 was released in 2009 with a song by Drake and Saukrates called “The Search”. Rich Kidd returned to the Stylus Awards in 2011 with five nominations and won Artist Mixtape Of The Year and performed at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre. Also in 2011, Rich Kidd featured in a short film called Trespassing, documenting the struggle within his community and art in a harsh environment. The film was included in the City Life Film Project and debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival’s Bell Lightbox. The Toronto Star has named Rich Kidd one of Toronto’s Top 5 Independent MCs.
