Slaine of Special Teamz | Interview

Slaine is an emcee and actor from Boston, MA. He began writing rhymes at age 9, and at age 18, moved to NYC to attend the School of Visual Arts, only to leave after seven months. He spent nights as a club promoter to make ends meet and became active in the underground hip hop scene. He began recording with MC Shan who later managed Slaine. While recording a demo in the Lordz Of Brooklyn’s studio, Slaine met Danny Boy of House of Pain which led to a production deal with DJ Lethal and the 2005 mixtape release of The White Man is the Devil Vol. 1. Special Teamz formed soon after, with Edo G and Jaysaun, and the group released Stereotypez in 2007. Slaine joined the collective La Coka Nostra alongside ILL BILL, Danny Boy, DJ Lethal, and DJ Eclipse. Hometown actor Ben Affleck found a local article of Slaine and casted him for the 2007 film Gone Baby Gone, due to his looks fitting the image of a charactor role. Slaine was later offered a larger role in the blockbuster film The Town. He also appears in The Crack Down, Bad Blood, and Killing Them Softly. La Coka Nostra released their album, A Brand You Can Trust, in 2009 with production from DJ Premier, ILL BILL, Statik Selektah, and more. Slaine’s solo album, A World With No Skies 2.0, was released in 2011, followed by The Boston Project in 2013, to showcase much of Boston’s talent.
